Dip Dye Ombre and a Crazy Week

Is anyone else really glad it’s Friday? This week has been crazy, to say the least. My less than two year-old Jeep died on me last Friday evening. I took it in for service on Saturday and they told me that 1) they didn’t even have my appointment even though I’d received a confirmation two hours earlier and 2) there weren’t any transmission techs working even though my appointment was specifically for transmission work. I ended up leaving it anyway and picked it up several hours later after being told that it was just a software issue and had been fixed. Fast forward to Sunday afternoon. Jake and I drive the Jeep to Party City to buy some balloons and the darn thing dies in the parking lot. Twice. He was able to get it started up and we made it home, thankfully. I took the vehicle in again on Monday and this time it was discovered that my battery is bad. Long story short, I got a new battery and it finally seems to be running like normal. I’ve got to go back AGAIN on July 15th to repair the lift gate but at least that’s an easy fix.

Tuesday seemed to be off to a better start but then I got a call at work from my Dad asking “Have you heard from Jake?” and he sounded in a bit of a panic. Turns out there had been reports of an active shooter on Redstone Arsenal where Jake works. It was almost two hours before I could get in touch with him so the whole morning I was pretty much a nervous wreck. I won’t go into too much detail (you can read the news reports online) but the whole thing ended up being some sort of fluke. I’m so relieved everyone was okay but it was still a high-anxiety situation.

On top of all that, I’m in my last month of grad school (hallelujah!) so I’ve been so busy studying, writing papers, and taking tests. Not to mention I have a full-time job that keeps me occupied from 8:00 to 4:30 on week days. Lately I have been so tired at the end of the day that I just want to sit on the couch and watch Jeopardy. Can anyone else relate to being so fatigued that you lack the motivation to do anything fun? I’m glad Friday’s are “casual day” at the office because I really didn’t have the motivation to dress up today. If you’re anything like me then “casual” can still mean wearing a dress. I love this ombre number from Mint Julep Boutique. It is the softest jersey knit and has an oversized fit so it’s super comfortable. It also comes in this pretty blue and purple color combo. Pay attention to the size chart and definitely size down! I’m wearing the size small and it’s still a loose fit.

PS My birthday is tomorrow and I have a four-day weekend so I’m looking forward to relaxing and celebrating. I will be 30 tomorrow (yikes!) and I have two fun posts planned for next week so stay tuned! Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

  1. I love this dress, the colors really work and it seems like a dress that would be flattering on so many different body types. I also really love those sandals. I feel like I would get a lot of use out of them.

  2. That dress is absolutely beautiful! And it looks so comfortable. I’ve been shopping around for cute, light dresses without much luck. But this is perfect!

  3. Oh dear Courtney, it really does sound like you had a bit of a torrid time. I’m so glad Jake is okay. That would have freaked me out totally. I love how this dress looks on you, it’s so flattering and the color is gorgeous. Best of luck for your last few days at grad school.

  4. Bless your heart! What a time with the jeep! Glad the battery change has seemed to have fixed the problem 😊 And that dress…I am loving it! It is so cute and very flattering….believe I need that thing in my closet!

  5. That dip dye dress is adorable and perfectly stylish for summer! I love the color pattern of it. So simple yet elegant!

  6. You’re a neighbor. Totally cool, I’m in Huntsville too. That sank in the minute you started talking about the shooter the other day on base. I am not certain anybody in this town got through that day without a major dose of stress. Pretty clothes definitely help though. I have always loved ombre dress designs and particularly like the fact that you have included cute choices that will flatter different body types. Although I definitely have a couple favorites, I love them all.

  7. Congrats on being in your last month of grad school! I love the dress & these are great shots. I really like the second photo; it’s like an action shot!
