One of my favorite parts of shopping is seeing how far I can stretch my money. I certainly believe in investing in top-quality designer pieces but I follow a 90/10 philosophy. Ninety percent of my closet is affordable fashion while the other ten percent is investment pieces. I also try to chose my designer items based upon true wearability rather than just aesthetics. In other words, I am more inclined to spend $$$ on a high quality pair of durable leather boots rather than a cotton dress that is expensive just because it’s a designer brand. I also won’t spend hundreds on something just because everyone has it or because it’s on trend. I only invest in items I truly love and know I will wear and use for a lifetime.
The Look for Less
All that being said, I get really excited when I find a good quality designer dupe. I saw this Tularosa x Revolve Pink Crochet Dress online and instantly fell in love. I did not, however, fall in love with the $218 price tag. The description says it is a “nylon blend” that is hand-wash only. Nylon really isn’t an expensive fabric so if you buy this dress, you’re just paying for the name. I really loved the dress though so I added it to my Pinterest board and thought I’d revisit later on to see if it goes on sale. A couple days later, I was browsing one of my favorite website, SheIn.com, and came across this almost identical dress that is ONLY $24. I’ll take two, please! Keep reading for more info on size and fit!
Sizing & Fit
For $24, I kind of thought this dress would be a cheap mess but I was very pleasantly surprised. The overlay is a beautiful lace crochet so I probably wouldn’t put this piece in the washing machine. I’ve had it both dry-cleaned and hand washed and it has held up perfectly each time. As far as sizing goes, this dress runs a bit large the way shift dresses usually do. SheIn.com is great about listing exact measurements for their items. I went with a size medium because I was right in between the small and medium measurements. I’d rather my clothes be comfortable than unflatteringly tight so I that’s why I chose the medium. As you can see from the photos, this dress is a shift silhouette so it is a naturally looser fit. The length is great for me, a petite 5’0, but if you want more length then I would suggest sizing up. You could pair it with a great belt to cinch in the waist and give you more shape. If you scroll down to the bottom of the item’s page, you can see photos of how other women styled this dress. There are also a lot of great reviews if you need more input on sizing and fit.
SheIn.com is a Chinese-based website but I have ordered many times and always had a great experience. A lot of their items ship from a warehouse in the US so shipping has always been quick. I’ve also been pleased with the quality of the items. With this dress being only $24, you really don’t have much to lose. If for any reason you do need to return it, SheIn has a great return policy. I have returned several items and always received my refund or credit within just a few days. They have a feature called “My Wallet” which lets you put your refund right back into your customer account so you can use it like a store credit later. Their website has a ton of beautiful pieces at really affordable prices so you’re sure to find something you just can’t live without!
